April is one of the two months that the Car Care Council supports every year to sensitize people on the importance of preventative maintenance and car care. The other month is October. The reason why it is crucial to give attention to your car during April is that it is the end of winter and you need to prepare your vehicle for the forthcoming summer road trips and spring driving. This is the time to deal with the issues that had taken the back seat during winter and ensure that windshield wipers, brakes, and tires are ready for the rain.
Car care is paramount because without it, you will end up spending a lot of money paying for costly repairs down the line and you will resell it for a lower price. Taking care of your car will ensure that you are safe on the road and that your car is dependable, hence, lower chances of breaking down or accidents. Some of the things you should do to ensure that your car is in top shape during the oncoming warmer months are;
Fluids, filters, and oils
Check the fluids, filters, and oils. Oil must be checked whenever there is a fill-up and changed according to the intervals that the owners recommend in the manual. Windshield washer, coolant, power steering, transmission, and brake fluid must also be inspected regularly. Regularly check and replace car filters including interior ventilation, fuel system, and transmission.
Hoses
Check hoses every time you are doing an oil change and ensure that they are replaced when they are restricted, swollen, rusted, cracked, brittle, and leaking. Check the condition and looseness of serpentine belts and V-belts and make sure that they are replaced if they are showing signs of extreme wear, glazed, frayed, or cracked. Basically, replace the timing belt after 60,000 to 90,000 miles or the distance stated in the manual to avoid major engine damage or breakdown.
Battery
Inspect the engine and ensure that the battery connection is corrosion-free, tight, and clean. The battery must be mounted securely. Test a battery if it has been in use for three years or more and replace it if need be.
